Allied Bakeries are Best of the Best

8 November 2011

Allied Bakeries' Best of the Best awards took place on 7th November in Coventry. This is our 3rd annual celebration and is a great opportunity to recognise all the outstanding achievements that have taken place across the business in the last year.

All nominations were colleagues who have gone above and beyond to help either the company or their community. There were some amazing stories that made the Board and everyone else in the room very proud.

This year in addition to our usual first, second and third place awards we introduced two new awards:

  • the Community Hero Award to recognise the bravery and sensitivity that were demonstrated in order to help others
  • the Health and Safety Award to recognise the most improved health and safety results across Allied Milling and Baking

The Board had the very difficult task of deciding who would receive the first, second and third place awards and the Community Hero and Health and Safety Awards.

The overall winner of the Best of the Best award was Matt Wright, Engineer from Allied Bakeries London.

Matt Wright was awarded for his quick reactions and the way he has helped others without a second thought. After leaving the site one evening, Matt saw what he thought was someone being attacked - they were being dragged from their car and without a second thought for his own safety he stopped to help. Upon stopping, he discovered the 'attacker' was a young man attempting to assist his Grandfather who appeared to be having a heart attack. Matt performed resuscitation on his own until the paramedics arrived on the scene and then continued to assist the paramedics once they arrived.  Matt showed incredible strength of character and demonstrated our Values in every sense.

A few months later, Matt was one of the first aiders who attended a serious workplace accident. His actions served to delay the onset of shock for the injured employee which the paramedics said significantly helped him in the early stages of his recovery.
