Working with our neighbours
Our responsibility is to support our people in their activities
which engage with the local communities in which our business
operates by helping the community and charity projects.
Our bakeries raise thousands of pounds for charity annually.
Allied Bakeries Pennine raises funds for the Cure Parkinson's
Trust by initiatives including support for the Stockport
Carnival. Allied Bakeries Southern raised £20,000 for the British Heart
Foundation through a bike ride from London to Brighton.
Allied Bakeries Southern donated more than 500 loaves to a
primary school, which helped raise money towards renovating the
school swimming pool. Allied Bakeries Eastern donated more than
2,600 loaves to 27 schools. A total of £1,360 was raised for
various local charities and school projects.
We take a practical approach to showing that we care about what
happens within our communities. Allied Bakeries Pennine has used
one of our safety programmes, 'Stop Think Go', to demonstrate to
schoolchildren how to play safely outdoors, especially in the
summertime.
We sponsor local events. Allied Bakeries Midlands sponsors the
local school awards category for 'inspirational teachers', within
the Birmingham area.
In Northern Ireland, activity includes support for the SOS Bus, which
goes out into the community to help people in their vulnerable
moments.
Sunblest is partnering with the Northern Ireland
Cancer Fund for Children to raise funds through motivating and
organising staff, hosting a corporate golf day, running two on-pack
promotions and hosting a consumer challenge event.
Payroll giving
Payroll giving is a valuable, long term source of revenue,
providing regular income to help charities budget and plan ahead
more effectively. We operate a payroll giving scheme which enables
employees to donate to charity via the payroll. It's an easy,
tax-free way for us to help our favourite charity or good
cause.
